Backings & Topping

Embroidery stabilizers can be divided into two categories: backings and toppings. They can provide support and prevent the fabric from stretching and moving during embroidery, therefore reducing puckers that occur when the fabric isn't stable enough.

Cut away backing is suitable for most situations, such as wool fabric, which is elastic, volatile and easy to tear.

For tear away backing, you can easily tear it off from your embroidery, and it is mostly used for not easy to deform and torn fabric.

Wash away stabilizers so called water soluble stabilizers(WSS) is great for those creative projects like lace designs, appliqués, thick and fuzzy fabrics, such as fleece, terry cloth or corduroy. Wash away backings are kind of solvy non-woven fabric. Wash away toppings are more like a layer of transparent film. commonly used when embroidering on thick and fuzzy fabrics, such as fleece, terry cloth or corduroy. It can help your work look crisp and well-defined.

Iron on backing will not dissolve and will stick to the fabric after ironing or steaming, providing support for soft fabric and helping the fabric lie flat. We usually use it when you need to embroider on small pieces which you can't find suitable hoops to fasten it.
